Our hearts and minds go out to all the communities affected by the bushfires raging across our country. As smoke pollution is a growing concern this summer, we encourage everyone to refer to the guidelines regarding exercise and smoke pollution issued by the Australian Institute of Sport.

According to the AIS, ‘the health impact of bushfire smoke can vary based on an individual’s current health status and previous medical conditions. Current public health advice is aimed at high-risk groups, including people over 65, children 14 years and younger, pregnant women and those with existing heart or lung conditions’. Furthermore,  ‘Athletes involved in high performance sport can also be at higher risk while performing high intensity prolonged exercise outdoors and additional caution should be taken’ (AIS, 2020).

At Windy Hill Fitness Centre, we will continue to monitor and update community based on the Air Quality Index.
