“Anyone Can Drown, But No One Should”
Friday 25th July marks World Drowning Prevention Day, a timely reminder of the importance of water safety and active supervision.
Each year, more than 300,000 lives are lost to drowning around the world many of them preventable. At BlueFit Swimming, we're taking this opportunity to remind families of our supervision policies, which are in place to help keep our community safe in and around the water.
Supervision Saves Lives
At BlueFit Swimming we maintain a high standard of safety through our robust aquatic supervision policies and the Lynxite drowning detection system. Our trained staff do a fantastic job in ensuring a safe environment, but parental or guardian supervision is still essential at all times.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Children aged 0–5 and all non-swimmers:
Must be within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian at all times. This means the adult must be in the water with the child. - Children aged 6–10:
Must be closely and actively supervised by a parent or guardian. This includes:
Being ready to enter the water.
Maintaining constant visual contact.
Staying free from distractions. - Minimise distractions:
Avoid using mobile phones, lengthy conversations, or other distractions that can cause a lapse in supervision.
In addition, we regularly conduct risk audits and implement proactive risk minimisation strategies to maintain the safest possible aquatic environment.
This World Drowning Prevention Day, we encourage every family to take a moment to prioritise water safety. Stay close. Stay alert. Stay safe.
